Hello!  So of course yesterday I was blabbing my stress to you and it didn't occur to me that the sore throat I have had the past several days was going to hit with a vengeance!  Stress = lowered immune system = sick.  Working with kids I definitely get my fair share of germs.  But, already?!  It's only the first full week of school!  This morning I woke up feeling just about awful.  Runny nose, hot/cold flashes, heavy head, swollen eyes, and just overall, crappy.  There was no way I was going to call in so soon!  I know, I know, you're probably just like my colleagues at work, "You don't feel good?  What?  Why are you here? Do you have a fever?  I don't want to get the SWINE FLU."  Man, I don't want to get anyone sick or the kids but there's just such a stigma attached to calling off work.  I decided to have the nurse check my fever which the first time around was 100.5.  When a student hits 100 that is considered a fever and they are sent home.  I, on the other hand, had her take it again and it was 99.9.  Yahoo!  That was enough for me to convince myself I was OK.  I pretty much save my sick days for the kind when I have the stomach flu - you know, where you have to crawl to the bathroom because you're so weak?  You're probably wondering how this all connects to food.?.  Well, first of all, this reinforces many of my blogs where I write about finding stress relievers in order to keep your mind and body healthy.  Secondly, I'm sure it never occurred to you to make sure your medicines are all sugar-free?!  I've been pumping myself with cough drops, antehistamines, and cold medicine to help me sleep.  The amount of sugar in cough medicine can be ridiculous!  Our bodies don't need that and I certainly don't need the added sugar to "feel better."  Next time you're sick make sure you buy the sugar-free cough medicines (yes, they really exist).  Hopefully I will be feeling much better tomorrow...

Breakfast -

1/2 cup Original Fiber One Cereal

1/4 cup organic raisins

1/2 fat-free organic milk

Lunch -

Cedarlane Bean and Cheese Burrito


2 tbsp. fat-free ranch

6 oz. fat-free yogurt

sugar-free jello

Snack -


Dinner -

2 oz. 97% fat-free turkey burger

1/2 cup instant 4-cheese Mashed Potatoes

Salad (Mixed greens, pepper, croutons)

2 tbsp. light ranch

Snack -

SoBe Lifewater

100 calorie pack
