9/6/14 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Monday

by Katie (Jenny Craig 2009 Poster Girl) 7. September 2013 19:29

Today was my first day of school with the kids.  I am always so excited to see all the kids from last year.  There's something so heartwarming about kids shouting your name with big smiles on their faces and running over to give you a hug.  I can't even put into words how much I love that part of my job.  I realize how much I miss them in just a few short months.  It's shocking how much kids grow over the summer as well!  There really seems to be a growth spurt from 4th to 5th grade.  All the sudden the little ones I've had since 2nd grade no longer look so little in 5th grade.  Hormones have taken over and girls look more like women and the boys are taller than me!  But, the downside is how much misery I was in today.  Our school is not air-conditioned and it was in the 90's - not good for any learning environment.  I was hot and had painful feet.  Now I will say they still aren't swollen comparatively to other pregnant women I know but I'm sure as the weeks go by they will start to enlarge some more.  However, being on my feet the entire day killed and my back felt like it was going to break from all the weight.  I'm not sure I can do this for four more weeks.  I feel like a failure as a teacher and as a pregnant woman.  As a teacher I want to be that engaged, interactive, energetic person I once was that I think makes me good at what I do; but it takes all my energy just to sit there and watch the kids.  As a pregnant woman there were others last year in my building who went over their due date and still came everyday without a complaint.  If I can't make it like them then what kind of person am I?  Weak?  Can I not handle it?  I know I should probably try to let go of some of my perfectionism and stop comparing myself but it's really hard.  I want to be the best I can be at all I do.  i feel so frustrated and exhausted today.
