10/29/14 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Friday

Continued from 10/28/10.  My doctor finally arrived 45 minutes later while my son just hung out in the birth canal.  When she got there the first thing she commented on was how ready he was to come out.  She asked if my husband wanted to hold one leg while the nurse held the other.  He surprised me by saying yes - before labor he said he was going to stick to staying by my head because he didn't want to see anything.  In fact, he wasn't even sure if he was going to cut the umbilical cord because that kind of freaked him out too.  However, when it came right down to it I guess he didn't think about things and lived in the moment because he held a leg and watched the whole experience AND he cut the umbilical cord.  When the doctor said push I kid you not, 3 pushes later he was out!  Some of you may be wondering if there was pain and what it felt like.  I can honestly say there was not any pain.  I could feel a huge pressure (which ended up being the head) and then once the head came out the doctor pulled the rest of his little body out too.  Almost immediately they laid down a towel and let me hold my son.  It was one of the happiest moments of my life.  My husband and I were beaming from ear to ear.  Then he was quickly swooped up to be cleaned, weighed, and measured.  He was 8.07 pounds and 21" long!  The only immediate concern was that he had a lot of amniotic fluid in his lungs.  The hope was that he would scream and cry which would cause the fluid to be coughed up.  It was absolutely surreal having some of my loved ones in the room with me.  I am so glad we decided to ask them to stay.  Everyone was crying and smiling at the same time.  The flood of love and happiness I was feeling was indescribable!  To be continued...
