11/16/14 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Tuesday

Let me first start by saying that my husband has been so wonderful during the pregnancy, the crazy hormones after birth, and my Mom being sick.  I really do think I'm incredibly lucky and don't know what I would do without him.  I can't imagine being a single or teenage mom with a newborn!  I give these women so much credit; they are so strong.  I'm grateful for someone who is willing to do 1 nighttime duty a night even though he wakes up at 5:45 for work everyday just so I can get some sleep.  I am grateful that he always set up my breast pump and washed all the accessories for me - it was his way of contributing.  Now, I am being completely honest when I say he has been amazing but obviously every couple has work to do when you're learning something new.  Having a newborn has not been without it's rough patches.  Last week I was feeling trapped in this house and angry that my husband got to go off to work everyday and do things like help other family members in the evenings (which in essence is yet another great quality).  However, I wanted to feel like I could get in the car and go at anytime and not always be the caregiver 24 hours a day.  I was also letting my husband do more of the "behind the scenes" work with our baby than be hands on.  At first I was concerned that this was his choice and he just wasn't interacting with the baby that much.  Then I realized yet another great quality of mine, that I was controlling the situation without even realizing it.  I was letting my husband clean, wash, and prepare bottles at night while I got FJ ready for bed (singing, rocking, reading books, and do prayers).  I was gladly picking him up when he started to cry because I knew he was more comforted by me.  I think inside I was starting to build up an anger with my husband without even understanding that I needed to let go and my husband was perfectly capable of taking care of our son too.  I was taking control without even giving him a chance.  Luckily we had a great conversation once I realized my feelings and now we try to share a lot more of both the hands on and "behind the scenes" roles.  Everyday certainly is a new learning experience even with our own relationship!
