12/8/14 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Wednesday

Today I was talking to a friend about holiday parties and food.  I forgot being on maternity leave how excessive the amount of food is during the holidays at work!  She was complaining about how her coworkers give her a hard time for never partaking in the gluttonous act of stuffing themselves.  If she was going to have a food orgasm it certainly wasn't going to be at a work event with a bunch of store bought food.  Does that make us food snobs?  Certainly not.  I feel the same; if I'm going to be committing the dangerous act of eating fattening, delicious foods it's going to be around my friends and family with homemade goods that probably remind me of my childhood.  :)  What are some of your food vices?  For me, it's difficult to be around Panera bagels (I LOVE them!), my Dad's homemade macaroni and cheese, and homemade Christmas cookies (has to have homemade icing - none of that store bought stuff because my Mom always makes her icing from scratch so that has become my favorite as an adult).  I try to stay away from these foods as much as possible.  The holiday season is definitely a tough one.  Be careful and choose foods with scrutiny - if you are going to "cheat" I would make your exception for one of your food vices, not something that you don't really and truly love.  Allow yourself to enjoy just a small portion of one of these items and move on.  Choose one day such as Christmas for your "cheating" and then as I mentioned yesterday, don't beat yourself up about it.  Just work out that much harder the next day and get back to eating healthy.  Good luck this holiday season!  You can do it!
