The lat pull machine is a great piece of exercise equipment.  It is versatile in that you can use it for triceps pushdowns, but its main purpose is to work the back.  Make sure the leg cushion is set properly to keep you snug on the seat.  It will help you get that “V” muscle form on your back.  If you are at gym, ask a trainer, or a well seasoned workout friend to monitor your form.  Make sure you use as much energy on your pull down (without yanking) as you use going back up.  There is work going both directions.  Make sure you lead with your elbows, so that you don’t steal the muscle benefits from your back, by your arms.  Keep your abs engaged and your elbows lose to your sides.  If your feet come up off the floor, your seat needs to be adjusted or your weight is too much.  Proper form is more important than higher weight.

Where you place your hands on the bar and which direction they face (palms facing at your face or away from your face), and where you place your hands on the bar affects the benefits and the target of the exercise.  Mix it up.  Try one grip with a wide hold and next time; try overhand and a close grip.  I use weight gloves to protect my hands.

Bathing suit season is just around the corner and everyone wants that excess fat off your bra line or mid-back.  Exercise, in conjunction with clean eating, can help you achieve those goals.



01/06/11- Thursday Workout Diary:

Recumbent bike- 30 minutes

I am going out of town for the weekend.  I will be send ing the blog portion but am not going to docuement all the food.  After the holidays, I'm taking a few days to myself with my husband.  I plan on trying to eat reasonably ( because I FEEL terrible when I don't), and I'm taking my workout tapes with me.  Some people may ask why continue the workout on the trip?  I really love the energy and the challenge of working out, so doing it on vacation is my idea of 'me time'.  I enjoy it.  It brings me peace.  So I do it!  It also allows me to have indulgences like wine and a dessert or 2 when i'm taking some R & R without feeling like  I fell off the wagon.  I will return with the food blogs next Monday.  Thanks for your support.
