3/16/15 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Saturday

I don't know if you remember but awhile back I mentioned how my husband had pneumonia for a month and a half?  Since December he's had 3 X-Ray's of his lungs.  The first 2 times he was sent home with the news that he still had fluid in his lungs after four weeks of anti-biotics.  The last time he went the doctor said he still had fluid in his lungs but sent him on his way.  No meds.  To me that seemed peculiar.  He just went for his third X-Ray and while the fluid is finally gone; he has permanent scar tissue damage.  In essence this means that a portion of his lung is dead.  Whenever he's around smoke, difficult weather conditions, or exerts himself it will be difficult to breathe as he is not able to get as much oxygen as the average person.  This is so alarming to me.  What does this mean?  The doctor said for the rest of his life he's more susceptible to pneumonia.  Does this mean he'll continue to have permanent scar tissue damage?  Would that mean in the future he may have to have a lung transplant?  I know these are all dramatic questions but they're something to consider.  It also makes me wonder if that doctor should've sent him home the second time without trying to still attack the pneumonia.  Needless to say we are going to get a second opinion from a specialist.  I just don't trust many doctors these days after everything my Mom has been through.  I'm seriously not trying to give you a sales pitch for the website but this is just another reason why YourCity.MD is so good...people just like you and me rating doctors honestly.  If I see a particular doc only who got a couple stars then I'm pretty much not going to choose this doctor.  I'll let you know what our second opinion says...
