Today is the start of the Kentucky Derby.  Many people celebrate by throwing Derby parties or going to the race tracks and watching the races.  Celebrations can certainly create havoc on your diet plan.  All the appetizers, food, and alcohol can cause a setback on what you've worked so hard for. 

We left for the race track at about 2:30 and planned on staying until it was over around 6ish.  Then we were going to dinner for a friend's birthday.  So basically we were going to be out late and there was no option to eat my Jenny dinner and do a salad at the restaurant.  The key for events such as these are to make sure you have packed your snack (I packed an apple) and try to eat as healthy as you can.  We went to a Pub and I have to say, there were not many healthy choices.  It was pretty slim picking.  I ended up getting a Caesar salad (no dressing), grilled chicken (took some of it off so it equaled about 3 oz.), and a slice of bread (ripped off the top because the top had been coated with butter).  This covered my vegetable, protein, and starch.  For my fat, I opted for a plain salad (parmesan cheese was enough flavor for me) and got a glass of red wine.  Now, my husband on the other hand, still has a lot to learn.  He didn't want a salad (which is totally fine; however, remember I said the menu was pretty tough) and he's trying to stay on maintenance so he ordered a grilled chicken sandwich.  This WOULD be a great option.  BUT, he forgot to ask for no butter on the bun, no bacon, and no sauce (it was some kind of spicy mayo concoction).  He ended up taking off the bacon but couldn't take off the sauce or butter.  I thought he didn't feel like asking for any of this so I kept my mouth shut.  I would never monitor his eating; but afterwards he asked for my opinion.  You live and learn!
