7/3/15 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Sunday

by Katie (Jenny Craig 2009 Poster Girl) 4. July 2014 11:58

Today was our 4th of July party with my family.  As I've mentioned previously, holidays can actually cause a fairly large setback with your diet if you let yourself get carried away.  Why?  Parties are usually a lot of finger foods which means you are "grazing."  Before you know it you've inhaled much more food than you usually would because you are not keeping track of your portions.  A little here and a little there can lead to tons of appetizers that you've stuffed into your mouth.  Even just one bite of a chip and creamy dip has you heading down the road to disaster.  If you're going to eat at the party and it's "finger foods" do NOT graze.  Take one plate sticking to mostly veggies, none of those fatty ranch dips.  Either take your own light ranch dips or use salsa instead.  Get 1/4 of a meat on your plate and 1/4 on your plate that's a light starch.  Hummus is a good source of protein and pita wedges could be your starch - just an example.  If you didn't have your 2nd fruit of the day you can treat yourself to a 1/2 cup mixed fruit.  Someone always seems to bring a fruit salad which is helpful for your diet.

I did extremely well in regards to the foods at the party...and even better; we all had a GREAT tIme.  Our son was an absolute ham.  I had about 10 of my cousins who just loved entertaining him and making him belly laugh.  It was a hot one outside but it was just so enjoyable sitting on the deck and playing cornhole with my family.  I couldn't have asked for a better holiday.  I hope you have a great one too!
