10/26/15 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Wednesday

"Just one bite."  We had a staff luncheon yesterday with my favorites: soup, sandwich, and salad.  Almost all were homemade which is a particular weakness for me.  I love anything homemade.  I commented on a few things that looked absolutely delicious...especially one of my friends, from scratch Peanut Butter Pies (I have never seen her recipe before but it looked incredible).  It had a layer of Oreo cookie, cream cheese mixed with confectionary sugar, crunchy peanut butter, whipped cream and a drizzle of hard chocolate on top.  Divine, one of my favorite desserts is peanut butter pie.  I kept hearing, you can have just one bite.  But, I'm too close to derail.  I do think it's important on special occasions to have one bite of things.  You should never abstain completely from foods you love.  But, I reserve these times for special holidays.  Unfortunately a staff lunch does not qualify.  Just remember this:  in 1/9 of a slice of pie there are typically 625 calories and 35g of fat.  3,500 calories equals a pound.  So if you just ate a bowl of that homemade broccoli and cheese soup that has about 175 calories and a half of a turkey sandwich which is approximately 170 calories; you're now up to 970 calories just in your lunch alone!  That doesn't even include dinner, breakfast, and any snacks you've eaten.  Just be careful - sometimes even a bite can have a heavy amount of sugar, calories, and fat.  Is it worth it?  To me it wasn't and I held strong.  Usually if I have one bite of sugar it just makes me crave more later.
